About the Role

Aerial MECHANICA Inc. is seeking an ambitious, research-driven master’s or doctoral student to co-lead a NASA Advanced Air Vehicles Program (AAVP) Fellowship proposal. Join us at the forefront of eVTOL propulsion and flight control innovation-partnering with NASA and our engineering team to advance the state of the art in electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

Role Description

• Collaborate with Aerial MECHANICA Inc. to co-develop and submit a NASA AAVP Fellowship research proposal focused on next-generation eVTOL propulsion.
• Lead academic research on the Chimera Propulsion System: a modular, high-count rotor ring-wing platform featuring axial flux direct-drive motors, advanced thrust augmentation, and distributed gyroscopic torque control.
• Design, model, and analyze propulsion, control, and fluid dynamic systems-leveraging both simulation and experimental methods.
• Interface with NASA mentors, university faculty, and Aerial MECHANICA’s engineering team throughout the fellowship.
• Publish and present research outcomes at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.

Unique Project Highlights

• Chimera Propulsion System: 38-rotor, modular ring-wing eVTOL platform.
• Axial Flux Direct-Drive Motors: Coreless, segmented stator design for superior torque-to-weight and efficiency.
• Distributed Gyroscopic Torque Control: Intelligent, real-time coordination of all rotors for enhanced stability and passenger comfort.
• I.C.E. Nozzle Technology: Induction Coanda Entrainment for 15–20% thrust augmentation and noise suppression.
• Redundant, Fault-Tolerant Architecture: Designed for heavy-lift, next-gen eVTOLs with robust power and thermal management.

Qualifications

• Full-time master’s or doctoral student (or incoming student for Fall 2025) at a U.S. accredited institution.
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident (per NASA AAVP eligibility requirements).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Academic background in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field.
• Experience or keen interest in propulsion, flight control, electric motors, or aerodynamics.
• Strong analytical, modeling, and communication skills.
• Eager to collaborate across disciplines and drive innovation in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A crucial eligibility criterion stated in the guide is that candidates shall be no later than in the first academic year of their Master’s degree program, or no later than in the second academic year of their doctoral degree program
