Chair, Department of Biomedical Informatics (Professor) (College of Medicine-Phoenix) (PhD, MD) Posting Number: req22036 Department: COM Phx Biomedical Informatics Department Website Link: Location: Greater Phoenix Area Address: 475 N 5th St., Phoenix, AZ 85004 USA Position Highlights: The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is seeking an outstanding academic leader to serve as the chair for the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI). The ideal candidate will be dynamic and looking for an opportunity to implement a new vision to expand the department. This leadership position will be responsible for strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the education, research and other programmatic missions of the department. The Department of Biomedical Informatics was created in 2013 to provide leadership in the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in clinical informatics by bringing together an interdisciplinary faculty to participate in programs in education, clinical service and research. The department is uniquely poised to participate in new ways of thinking, learning and teaching to advance clinical informatics, explore emerging applications of AI and improve the quality, safety, efficiency and outcomes of healthcare in Arizona. The BMI Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Medicine – Phoenix. Consistent with the Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) between the University of Arizona and Banner Health, the chair may have a matrix reporting relationship to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Banner – University Medical Group (B-UMG) and CEO of Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix for all clinical activities conducted at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. The chair will be eligible for membership in the UAHS-wide Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics (CB2) and will coordinate activities and potential joint recruitments between BMI and CB2. The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of full professor. The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines. Evidence of successful program building. Ability to build multi-institutional collaborations. Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a PhD in bioinformatics, health informatics, medical informatics, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, computer science or related fields, or MD with additional specialty training in biomedical informatics as evidenced by an MS or Clinical Informatics board certification or comparable training. Expert in the field as demonstrated with PhD in bioinformatics, health informatics, medical informatics, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, computer science or related fields or board certification in Clinical Informatics (ABPM). Have a track record of successful federal grant funding in informatics. Show national distinction in teaching, patient care or clinical research in an academic department or comparable environment. Be eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the full professor level. Be eligible, if an MD, for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona and eligible for medical staff membership at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. Exhibit a strong track record of progressively complex administrative experience (e.g., program leader, center/section director, etc.) in an academic medical center setting. Preferred Qualifications: Have an additional health profession degree (e.g., MPH, MS, etc.). Demonstrate leadership in an academic department of Biomedical Informatics. Have a track record of national distinction in service as seen by participation on NIH study sections or national committee leadership in American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) or similar professional societies. Exhibit past and/or continued research funding with evidence of high impact scientific research, including peer-reviewed publications in leading journals.
