Job Description

Vimeo, the world's leading all-in-one video software solution, is seeking an experienced Localization Project Manager to join our Localization Team as a contractor. In this role, you will work closely with the Localization Manager and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure we deliver the best localized product and user experience to our global users. The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated team player who is biased toward action and well-versed in product localization, internationalization, and product testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day localization of Vimeo's products across all supported languages. This includes creating projects, gathering reference materials, tracking, managing issues, collaborating with product engineering and managers, and ensuring the timely delivery and quality of localized content.
  • Collaborate with localization vendors' PMs on projects, serving as their main point of contact for day-to-day tasks to ensure the smooth, thorough, accurate, and timely completion of localization requests.
  • Manage the product testing for our localized product and feature launches/updates by partnering with the localization manager, product QA team, product engineers, and localization vendors to create testing plans and escalate any internationalization issues as needed.
  • Oversee linguistic QA cycles, analyze the root causes of recurring issues, and implement corrective or preventive actions.
  • Continuously manage and optimize linguistic assets (translation memories, term databases, glossaries, and style guides) for our product-related content.
  • Champion localization and internationalization best practices with our stakeholders in the product and product engineering teams.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders across the product, product engineering, and LSP teams to resolve questions or conflicts related to source file discrepancies, terminology, and language quality.
  • Proactively identify and communicate critical issues to senior management and key stakeholders, ensuring potential risks are promptly addressed.
  • Work on internal team projects and initiatives as needed, independent of day-to-day project management tasks.
  • Build connections and collaborate with peers across teams to achieve company-shared goals.
Requirements:
  • Interest in pursuing a career in localization.
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in product and software localization project coordination or localization project management, with a proven record of project managing complex product launches from the planning phase to launch.
  • 3 to 4 years of product and engineering stakeholder management experience with a proven record of getting buy-in in advancing localization best practices with internal client teams.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, with excellent attention to detail, and quality-oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to discern key and complex information and communicate it in a way that's easily digestible for people who aren't well-versed in localization and internationalization.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while working on multiple projects and product tests under tight deadlines.
  • Experience using Asana, Jira, and Translation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of localization and internationalization best practices.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-changing, and highly collaborative environment.
  • Fluency in a language other than English. Bonus points if you're fluent in Japanese, Korean, French, or German.
  • Understanding of cultural nuances and the ability to adapt communication styles and approaches for different audiences.
  • A genuine interest in languages, translation, and the leverage of technology to improve localization processes.
  • A commitment to learning and staying up-to-date with the latest localization tools, trends, and best practices.
Bonus Points:
  • BA/BS in translation, linguistics, localization project management, or a related field.
  • Experience with Smartling.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and bug-investigation skills.
  • Experience using data to track project performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
