Position Summary: The custodian is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school district facilities. This position involves working collaboratively with other custodial staff and school district personnel to maintain high standards of cleanliness and support the overall operations of the school.

Qualifications: High school diploma (required). Previous custodial and janitorial experience in a school setting (preferred). Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors in classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas. Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and fixtures, to maintain a sanitary environment. Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste in designated areas. Strip and wax floors during designated times. Wipe down and sanitize surfaces such as desks, tables, countertops, and door handles to prevent the spread of germs. Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, fixing leaks, and repairing broken fixtures. Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor for prompt resolution. Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for school events and activities. Maintain outdoor areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds, by sweeping, raking, and removing debris. Monitor and report any damage or vandalism to outdoor facilities or equipment. Ensure that all doors, windows, and gates are securely locked at the end of each shift. Assist with monitoring building access and responding to security alarms or emergency situations as needed. Follow established safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace. Work collaboratively with other custodial staff and school personnel to coordinate cleaning schedules and prioritize tasks. Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and school administrators to address any concerns or special cleaning requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and other district administrators.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
