Position Summary

 

The Funeral Planner is the primary point of contact for families, guiding them through the entire planning process with empathy, expertise, and meticulous attention to detail. This role requires a blend of compassionate counseling and precise coordination to create seamless and meaningful tributes. You will be responsible for arrangements, ensuring that every family feels supported and that their wishes are honored perfectly.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Family Consultation: Meet with client families to listen to their needs, explain service options (including burial, cremation, and memorial services), and guide them through the decision-making process.
  • Service Coordination: Liaise with clergy, cemeteries, florists, newspapers, and other vendors to coordinate all logistical aspects of the funeral service.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Accurately prepare and file all necessary legal documents, including death certificates, burial permits, and cremation authorizations, ensuring full compliance with California state and federal regulations.
  • Merchandise Presentation: Present and explain options for funeral merchandise such as caskets, urns, and memorial products in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Event Oversight: Be present during visitations, funeral services, and memorial events to ensure everything runs smoothly and to provide support to the family and guests.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with drafting obituaries, processing payments, and maintaining meticulous records within our funeral home management software.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Bilingual: Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to serve our diverse community.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Funeral Arranger or Director.
  • Compassion & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to provide empathetic and compassionate support.
  • Attention to Detail: Impeccable organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy in all documentation and planning.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using computers, including MS Office and funeral home management software.
  • Professionalism: A valid California driver's license, a professional appearance, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.

Preferred:

  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the local community, including churches, cemeteries, and community leaders in surrounding areas.
  • Education: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science or a related field.
