Job Description

Position Purpose: The Hazardous Waste Operations General Manager oversees all aspects of hazardous waste operations within a geographical area, ensuring compliance with RCRA/OSHA, managing environmental health and safety protocols, meeting waste management sales quotas, and managing treatment/disposal services. The role includes hiring and training hazmat-certified personnel, establishing environmental compliance goals, maintaining profit and loss ratios, and overseeing transportation, treatment, and disposal projects in accordance with EPA, DOT, and state regulations. The manager reviews waste characterization assessments, disposal pricing, and service contracts, and promotes sustainable operations related to hazardous waste and emergency response services. Expertise in environmental regulations, contracts, technical sales, negotiations, teamwork, and human relations is essential.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute business plans for hazardous and special waste operations aligned with company goals and compliance requirements.
  • Analyze and optimize costs against market rates.
  • Manage budgets, including equipment, personnel, and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, DOT, OSHA regulations.
  • Maintain environmental permits and regulatory reporting.
  • Drive profit and loss performance and identify growth opportunities.
  • Coordinate environmental and safety training programs.
  • Manage maintenance schedules for waste handling equipment.
  • Review disposal contracts and pricing for profitability.
  • Foster collaboration between operations, sales, and compliance teams.
  • Optimize resource allocation across waste management operations.
  • Develop and mentor team members, create succession plans.
  • Adapt operations to regulatory and market changes.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related science, business, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of industrial business experience with P&L responsibility.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Process, Operations Management, QA/Q procedures, DOT, EPA, TSCA, OSHA.
  • Budgeting, cost control, forecasting skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Required Certifications / Licenses / Training:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Valid driver’s license
