About the Job Under the guidance of the EKG Lab Medical Director and Program Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology, manages and leads all administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the EKG Lab within the Cardiac Center, which includes the following: planning, organizing, staffing, budgeting, growing, and leading program activities. What you will do Plan the program: Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization. In consultation with the Medical Director and Program Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology, develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization. Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program. Preparation and management of operating, capital, and monthly budgets. Develop and implement a yearly operating plan to support the program. Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement. Have strategic plan for the acquisition and implementation of new technologies within the laboratory. Organize the program (For all EKG ancillary specialty care sites including but not limited to the Main Hospital, St Peters, Princeton, Abington, King of Prussia, Springfield, Exton, Bucks County, Chadds Ford): Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization. Ensure that program activities comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards. Ensure that program activities comply with patient safety regulations within the hospital institution. Develop and implement quality assurance initiatives that align with the organization. Staff the Program: Direction and Leadership of primary EKG technicians and Holter technicians. In consultation with the Medical Director and Non Invasive Lab Director, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff. Ensure 100% compliance with hospital standards for quality control and infection control amongst staff. Communicate policy and institutional goals 100% of the time. Conduct annual in-services for training of sonographer, fellows and residents. Conduct all evaluations by anniversary dates 100% of the time. Establish and implement a performance management process for all program staff. Ensure all personnel are up-to-date on all certifications and mandatory education 100% of the time. Maintain and prepare accurate time and attendance records 100% of the time. Assess sonographer performance monthly and implements performance improvement goals when necessary. Patient Care Activities: Perform cardiac electrocardiography examinations including standard 12-lead EKGs, rhythm assessments, and holter applications. P epare patients and staff for cardiac examinations including reviewing indications and previous studies. Provide a preliminary interpretation to the reading cardiologist and subsequent editing of EKG reports. Submit accurate charges for all clinical examinations. Reconcile hospital and professional charges for all electrocardiograms performed on a weekly basis. Assure that all studies are read by the attending within 24-48 hours of study performance. Organization of biweekly electrocardiography technicians' laboratory meetings 100% of the time. Organization of electrocardiography teaching sessions on a bi-weekly basis. Provide adequate clinical coverage during teaching sessions. Work with outpatient, inpatient, and consultation service to ensure electrocardiography schedule provides timely service to patients. Develop and implement surveys to families of patients to assure excellent clinical service. Lead the Program: Ensure all staff members receive orientation and appropriate training in accordance with CHOP organizational standards. Promote continuing education for the staff by attending applicable national or regional meetings and teaching new concepts to the other staff and arranging educational opportunities for staff both inside and outside of the hospital. Supervise the program staff by providing direction, input and feedback on a monthly basis. Communicate with clients and other stakeholders to solicit input to improve the program. Liaise with other managers to ensure the effective and efficient program delivery. Coordinate the delivery of services among different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Ensure adequate physician and technician coverage for all EKG-related services 100% of the time. Ensure all policies and procedures are followed within the confines of the lab and hospital 100% of the time. Ensure appropriate attendance at all hospital leadership meetings and facilities planning meetings 100% of the time. Control the Program: Write reports on the program for management. Compile and analyze statistical data related to electrocardiography studies performed in the lab including productivity and revenue and volume statistics. Oversee charges and reconciliation of billing practices to ensure accuracy 100% of the time. Set and adhere to department budgets for compensation, supplies, services, and charges. Monitor billing processes for timeliness and accuracy including a regular review of patient charges. Ensure that the program operates within the approved budget. Oversee and approve purchase orders. Track revenue and expense reports on a monthly basis. Monitor and approve all budgeted program expenditures. Order equipment and supplies in a timely and cost-effective manner. Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks. Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework: Year End Review Report evaluation findings to the Administrative Director, Service Line Director, Medical Director and Non Invasive Lab Director. Recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate, in a cost effective and patient safety manner.
