Position Overview:

The Music & Arts Program Manager is the creative and strategic leader of Center of Life's (COL) music and arts programs and initiatives. The Music & Arts Program Manager directly oversees the KRUNK Movement and COL Jazz Program, and oversees the facilitation of performance opportunities and exposure for students. In their leadership capacity, the Music & Arts Program Manager is responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of creative curricula and practical experiences that successfully and holistically support students and artists in developing and achieving career goals in music and the arts. Working together with the Education and Creative Learning Manager and the Community Programs Manager, the Music & Arts Program Manager is part of a comprehensive team that provides Hazelwood and its surrounding communities with music, arts, professional, and technical education that complements traditional education through celebrating and nurturing individual gifts.  

  1. Program Strategy, Scope, and Design:
  • Provide vision for the music and arts programs that is consistent with the mission of COL
  • Working with COL's executive and operational leadership, develop a strategic plan for COL's music and arts programming and develop a timeline for implementation that is consistent with the organization-wide strategic plan and COL mission
  • Design innovative educational strategies that accomplish curricular objectives and goals with support from Program Coordinators
  • Ensure the implementation of each program's curriculum as designed 
  • Provide direct and strategic guidance, supervision, and support for professional development training to direct reports
  • Direct revisions of program delivery in response to ongoing assessment of students and feedback provided by Program Coordinators, Director of Programs, Director of Operations, and the Executive Director
  • Maintain detailed and organized program, event, and performance calendar 
  • Research, identify, and integrate best practices of youth development in music and arts
  • In collaboration with the Education and Creative Learning Manager, ensure that developed curricula support Pennsylvania common core standards and the expression of those standards within the individual schools where COL students attend 
  • In collaboration with Data & Evaluation Associate, develop outcome assessments that document each program's curricular effectiveness to funders, licensing agencies, and regulatory agencies 
  1. Program Leadership and Administration
  • Oversee all aspects of quality of care, safety, and operation of KRUNK and COL Jazz programming, potential replications, and performances 
  • Support Program Coordinators' management of paid staff, students, and volunteers
  • Lead weekly with music program teams meetings
  • Provide bi-weekly supervision to all direct reports
  • Establish and implement individual program policies and procedures that comply with organization-wide policies and procedures 
  • Develop and implement routine communication strategies between Program Coordinators and staff that maximizes the effectiveness and creativity of all existing and new programs 
  • As directed by the Director of Programs and the Director of Finance, oversee and contribute to the development of a yearly budget for each program  
  • Monitor budgetary compliance for each program; communicate clearly with program coordinators regarding budgetary compliance
  • Participate in the development of reports concerning programs for funding agencies, compliance agencies, COL internal strategic planning and annual reports as requested 
  • Ensure each program's compliance with quality campaign membership standards in the Allegheny Partnership for Out Of School Time (APOST) and Department of Human Services as communicated by Data & Evaluation Associate
  1. Outreach and Engagement
  • Research, identify and facilitate professional opportunities for music and arts program students to perform/exhibit talents throughout the year
  • Promote the music and arts programs for artistic releases, tours, and other opportunities for professional exposure 
  • Develop strong and professional relationships with all partnering organizations and individuals 
  • Ensure program design and curricula prepare and develop COL music students at national and international competition levels
  • Provide guidance and support to Program Coordinators in their recruitment efforts to achieve program student capacity goals
  • Provide support for all music elements of Fusion/Camp Hazelwood and COL-wide events as requested
  • Work with the Family and Community Outreach Programs on a regular basis to develop a comprehensive approach for engaging the families of enrolled children 
  • Work with KRUNK and COL Jazz Coordinators to develop strategies for replicating programs in public and private schools
  • Represent COL during site visits by funding and community partners
  1. General COL Expectations
  • Participate as an active member of Center of Life staff
  • Adhere to all Center of Life's policies and procedures
  • Adhere to the security, accuracy and operability of the daily communication and program reporting needs of COL
  • Attend all COL staff meetings, retreats, and mandatory events
  • Contribute to the development of a supportive and collaborative work environment
  • Provide a high level of customer service for existing and prospective program partners through transparent, accessible, and open dialogue about the organization's programs

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in music/arts related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with teens in a programmatic setting
  • Experience with music and arts curriculum development and administration preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and the ability to maintain a professional, positive collaborative relationship among all COL staff and COL Partners
  • Experience working at a recording studio with proven track record of growth and success
  • Experience as a performing musician and/or technician 
  • Experience in working with music educators and master musicians
  • Experience in music business and administration 
  • Administrative experience in supervising music educators 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic environment 
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
  • Proven track record of success in youth education and development
  • High energy, proactive, flexible and willingness to collaborate with many different groups
  • Pennsylvania criminal and child abuse clearances, FBI criminal background, PA Mandated Reporter Certificate and
  • Commitment to the mission of COL

Salary and Benefits:

  • Base salary is $60,000/year
  • Insurance in the forms of medical, dental, and vision
  • Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
  • COL covers 100% of these premiums for each employee.
  • Closed for 11 paid holidays throughout the year, plus the week between Christmas and New Years
