Job Description

THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is currently looking for a full-time CDL Equipment Operator to join our Northampton Paint Crew that covers Lehigh, Monroe, and Northampton County. Renowned for their commitment to maintaining Pennsylvania's highways, this organization plays a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep of the county's highway and bridge infrastructure. This is a fantastic career opportunity that promises to be both rewarding and impactful, making it one you definitely will not want to overlook!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role encompasses a range of responsibilities related to the operation of a truck-mounted highway pavement marking machine, adhering to the guidelines set forth in the Pavement Marking Handbook and Subchapter K - Marking Book. The operator skillfully manages a remote-controlled pavement line paint gun, ensuring the accurate application of both single and double paint lines. Continuous monitoring of pressure gauges, meters, and other operational indicators is essential during the execution of tasks, allowing for timely adjustments as needed. The operator navigates the paint truck through traffic, maintaining steady speeds to ensure consistent application rates and proper line spacing, while also checking the functionality of pressure gauges and other indicators, such as the paint gallon gauge and temperature readings. The vehicle, equipped with a spray paint apparatus, is operated with precision to achieve clear, well-spaced pavement markings of the correct thickness. Additionally, the operator manages a supply truck with a stripped weight exceeding four tons, delivering essential materials like glass beads, cold plastics, and paints for the large-scale traffic line-painting operations. Proficiency in demonstrating the operation of line painting equipment is required, along with the ability to handle and move loaded pallets, paint containers, and various tools either manually or with mechanical assistance such as forklifts. The role also involves assisting with equipment maintenance tasks, including lubrication, monitoring fluid and pressure levels, performing minor mechanical and electrical repairs, and ensuring cleanliness and upkeep of the equipment. Seasonal responsibilities include participating in the winter shutdown overhaul of equipment, preparing daily reports, and providing necessary data for reports compiled by the crew foreman. Furthermore, the operator is tasked with snow removal and other general highway maintenance duties, as well as undertaking additional related responsibilities as required, including winter assignments in different units.
