Building Skills NY (BSNY) is a Not for Profit that works with developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and community-based organizations to link NYC residents to construction jobs throughout NYC. Our mission is to provide stable employment and construction career pathways.

BSNY is seeking a proactive and results-driven Recruitment and Employment Specialist t o join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will strengthen and grow our client pipeline with key community-based organizations, training partners and direct client outreach . This role will involve collaborating closely with BSNY’s Director of Business Services and Director of Training to onboard new partners, maintain existing relationships, and provide high touch support to clients. This role is ideal for someone who is open to a high volume of calls, travelling across the boroughs for job fairs (open to working on their train commutes) and who is very strategic and process oriented to assist with a high volume of applicants and partners.

 

Day to day responsibilities will include:

Recruitment Responsibilities:  

  1. Manage referral applicant pipeline. 
  2. Maintain and develop relationships with job training partners.
  3. Offer time to BSNY training partners to educate their clients about construction site readiness. 
  4. Attend on-site and virtual events with partners, providing high-touch support. 
  5. Recruit, screen and provide feedback to training partners on client referrals. 
  6. Add new referrals into Salesforce. 
  7. Maintain and update records in Salesforce. 
  8. Assist training team as needed with BSNY internal referrals. 
  9. Manage direct applicant pipeline. 
  10. Monitor multiple inboxes for incoming applications. 
  11. Monitor main phone line and direct line for incoming applicant questions and existing applicant availability. 
  12. Monitor Google Form and spreadsheets for incoming applicant certifications, resumes and completed applications.
  13. Set up virtual screenings with applicants and screen for job readiness. 
  14. Add new applicants into Salesforce. 
  15. Maintain and update records in Salesforce. 

Employment Responsibilities  

  1. Co-lead recruitment strategy with Project Manager and Training Team 
  2. Attend daily recruitment syncs and participate in active recruitment slack channel.
  3. Strategize on all open jobs through matching, interviews, onboarding and retention 
  4. Conduct client outreach when BSNY positions become available, screening for available positions. 
  5. Obtain and/or create updated resumes from clients in the pipeline for accurate job matching.
  6. Recommend additional training or coaching for clients in the pipeline as needed.
  7. Maintain client's employment availability notes. 
  8. Assist with retention efforts post placement 

Admin Responsibilities  

  • Monitor multiple phone lines including main line and transfer calls.
  • Monitor multiple email inboxes and forward emails. 

Qualifications:  

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot – knowing when and how to ask for help.
  • Essential: Approach work with a customer-focused commitment and smart and innovative approaches .
  • Ability to work quickly with a “time is of the essence” attitude .
  • Able to work well with marginalized populations including long-term unemployed community members. You are also able to work with individuals in a culturally sensitive, empathetic manner.
  • Be a team player.
  • Able to work a hyrbid role with occasional weekday morning and or weekday evening work required (~1x a month).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred (HR, business, nonprofit administration, workforce development or labor relations). 
  • Knowledge of the construction industry or workforce development programs is a plus. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must. Experience with Salesforce is a plus as is the desire to learn more about Salesforce. Other systems that are a plus: Asana and Slack.

Compensation & Benefits: 

 

This is a full-time position. The salary range is $60,000 to $70,000 and is commensurate with experience. Building Skills NY offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, and 403b plan. This is a hybrid role. Flexibility with days in and out of office is helpful. Our office is located in midtown Manhattan but job fairs and off sites are essential to the role.
