Talent4Health is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Jackson, Mississippi.

Job Description & Requirements

• Shift: 12 hours, nights

Med Surg (Medical Surgical) 2 years exp required 🏥 Facility & Charting

• Hospital: UMMC
• Charting System: EpicCare Inpatient – EMR 2014 Certified EHR Suite
• Epic proficiency required
• Flu vaccine required (Deadline: Nov 15 ; only medical exemption accepted with documentation)
• Fingerprinting:
  • Remote process = allow 10 days
  • In-person = available at Jackson or Grenada campus (week prior to start)
• 50-mile radius rule applies

🧠 Unit Overview: 5 South Hematology/Oncology

• # of Beds: 32
• Certifications Required: BLS (ACLS for Charge RNs)
• Preferred but not required: ONC cert, Chemo/Oncology experience
• Manager willing to teach chemo administration – great learning opportunity
• Type of Patients: Hem/Onc, chemo
• Typical Diagnoses: cancer-related conditions, post-chemo management, possibly post-surgical/trauma overlap

👩‍⚕️ Staffing & Ratios

• RN:Patient Ratio: 1:5 (may go up to 1:6 for lower acuity)
• Adjustments: Lower ratios for high-acuity patients
• Charge Nurse: Takes light assignment; may take full load if needed
• House Supervisor: Onsite after 3 PM weekdays and all weekends
• Nurse Aides: Yes, on all units
• Educator/Manager: Shared among smaller units

💉 Skills & Experience

• Must-Have Experience:
  • Level I trauma experience
  • Large facility background
  • Comfortable with lines, chest tubes
• Preferred: Hem/Onc & chemo experience
• Titrations:
  • Common: Heparin
  • Possible: Amiodarone (started here, then transfer to cardiac unit)
• Tele:
  • All units have telemetry capability
  • Central monitor station communicates with RNs
  • 3 South = full tele unit with bedside monitors

🩺 Equipment & Support

• RT Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP (primarily nocturnal), RT assists
• High Flow: Available on 2 North
• Vents: Not typical on this floor

⏰ Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12 hours (7a–7p, 7p–7a)
• Self-scheduling: Partial; travelers fill schedule gaps
• Block scheduling: Possible if feasible
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 per month (may vary)
• Holiday Rotation: With core staff
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: To other med-surg units within skillset (higher-acuity to core staff)

👕 Dress Code

• Scrub Color: Any solid, professional color
• Scrubs Provided: No

🧭 Orientation

• Day 1: Paperwork, attestations, logins (Omnicell & Epic), unit tour, schedule review
• Additional: 2 shifts with preceptor
