Summary In the Registered Nurse role you will serve male and female Veterans with age ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. Central Texas VAHCS is an interdisciplinary facility servicing outpatient, 24/7 residential Community Living Center, and Domiciliary. You will work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignment and make the Veteran the priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. As the Registered Nurse, you will use professional standards of care and practice to evaluate self, programs, and service activities. Duties of the position include but are limited to; * Initiate/participate in Patient Safety activities that result in improved outcomes. * Implement an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs. * Educate colleagues and serve as a preceptor and/or mentor on patient safety initiatives and standards. * Support and enhance client self-determination. * Serve as a resource for clients and staff in addressing ethical issues. * Participate in ethics consultations. * Collaborate with others in research activities to improve care. * Identify and assess resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action. CTVHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care. This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care. This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being. All staff in this facility will be part of this process, shifting the focus from the question, "What's the matter with you?" to the question, "What matters to you, and how can we help you live your best life?" This strategy also involves integrating a full range of conventional approaches with Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) approaches in order to optimize lifelong health and well-being, as defined by the Veteran, rather than narrowly focusing on disease management. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. * Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
