Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION Under direct supervision, assists dentists in providing dental services to patients in clinics and health care settings; performs related work.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES General Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Pediatric Dental, Paul Paroski Dental, Orthodontics
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES •Prepare patients for examination and treatment. •Assist dentists by handing them required instruments and suctioning for the treatment of patients, pour alginate impressions, log and track lab cases. •Assist the patients as needed to complete forms, medical history and entering data into EPIC electronic chart. •Schedule patient appointments and retrieve records in EPIC as needed. •Clean stocks, prepare and maintain exam rooms for procedures, including but not limited to: dental exam chair, filters, and all other systems after every patient. •Follow established procedures in the disposal of sharps and hazardous waste and practice "Standard Precautions" in accordance with the CDC, NYSDOH and Woodhull's Infection Control policies. •Perform dental digital imaging as directed by Dentists. •Prepare instruments for sterilization, disinfects surface areas, and maintains clinic and clinic equipment in a hygienic condition, in accordance with infection control procedures. •Scan instruments in Abacus/SQ tracking system Minimum Qualifications 1. A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program, which included or was supplemented by 600 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside; or
2. A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program, which included or was supplemented by 300 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside; and 6 (six) months of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant performing all of the following duties: taking and uploading dental digital imaging, assisting dentist at chairside, and preparing dental instruments for sterilization; or
3. A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant performing the duties described in "2" above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. Each 100 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside is equivalent to two (2) months of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent.
Experience as a receptionist or clerk in a dentist's office is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
